World Cup Fever
World Cup season is upon us and we have been getting into the football spirit. So Junes newsletter is football themed.
We have been working hard to distribute specialised football boots to underprivileged children, these boots come with a matching ball and a DVD so children can teach themselves the skills and tricks need-ed to be the next Cristiano Ronaldo!
Watch this space next month where we will feature some of the beneficiaries.
This months money matters is focusing on the Universal credit roll out, do you know how you will be affected by the new benefit?
Universal Credit (UC) was introduced in 2013 in an attempt to simplify the welfare system by ‘rolling’ six types of benefits and tax credits into a single monthly payment – but has been increasingly criticised in recent years.
Hardship has been triggered by the six week wait time for claimants moving to UC.
Harsher sanctions have been introduced, which reduce or stop benefits for those who don’t do enough to look for work or turn up late to appointments. Low-paid workers are expected to look for more hours or take on extra jobs as a condition of wage top ups. On top of that they must report to regular jobcentre appointments to verify their efforts.
Have a look at ‘the most ridiculous reasons people had their benefits sanctioned’ for, including being in labour!
